@saltmerchant749 Every nation that signed on to the EU surrendered certain elements of their sovereignty. One of the main examples of this was immigration. Most nations in the EU also adopted the Euro as their currency. The Euro is actually the German Deutsche Mark as the bench currency, just renamed and expanded to the Eurozone. The UK never saw itself going to the Euro, because GBP has always been one of the strongest currencies on the globe. Another problem I saw in Europe, having lived there on and off since the 1970s, was the EU parliament overriding national parliaments not only on immigration, but food, transportation, and other domestic affairs. In Finland, there was pushback with the bent cucumber rule, for example. They also banned Finns from their normal dairy box distribution in rural areas because German tourists thought it was free meals for them, and they ate the wax off the cheese. Silly things the EU Parliament has no business even knowi g about, let alone legislating. But these busy-body feminists see govt as the solution to everything, and keep passing stupid law after law. UK was smart to get out.

@frenchydampier2209 US economy ran on tariffs throughout the 1800s. Foreign interests saw a giant cash cow, and co-opted the US financial system for their own benefit, skimming as much as they could off the US taxpayers, who didn't pay Federal Income Tax prior to 1913.

@BackStagewithThatTheatreKid You're not American if you hate America. Go live in the paradise of Europe or Canada if you hate the US. I've lived all over both, as well as Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Panama, ME, and Russia. The US is such an easy answer, for scores of reasons. I've enjoyed my time around the world, but nothing beats the US.

@tjt5055 Trump went to a military prep school, then Wharton School of Business, and did real estate deals with his dad on the weekends. He owns properties around the world, has managed financing, international negotiations, and trade already. Whatever information sources are feeding you this line of thought, are clearly corrupt and not well-informed at all. Look there first and clean out the corporate press garbage before trying to understand the ground truth.

@matsmcmats The exporting country pays the tariffs. To protect their industries, they will deflate costs to stay competitive in most cases. If they allow costs to rise into non-competitiveness, other countries can fill-in that market as a massive opportunity. You don't ever want to find yourself getting into a spat with the US at this game. Notice how quickly Columbia, Panama, Mexico, and Canada caved when their prime ministers or presidents thought they could be tough with the US. Mexico is the US's biggest trade partner. They bent the knee immediately. Nobody else has the trade leverage Mexico or Canada does (#2 trade partner), so it's best for these other countries to start figuring it out really quick if they want to keep their industries filling orders to the US.

@nickorme8112 I've been tracking foreign aid for decades. The problem is the people who the aid is intended for never/rarely receive it. The UN is usually involved in these matters, and they are filled with puppets for China and the Soviet Union back in the day, Russia today. For example even in some cases where it was private aid, like hands across America, none of that food went to the starving Africans. There were soviet IL-76 transports parked at the airports ready and waiting for the US goods to be loaded onto them, then flown into the Soviet Union. The titles of these aid packages are false & misleading. Most of the money ends up in the hands of money- laundering networks, intelligence agencies, weapons traffickers, organized crime rings, shadow-bankers, and the various criminal-govt entities who exploit these shake-downs. It's a giant scam.

@nickorme8112 Criminals in government have abused US aid programs within the US and outside of the US. There is almost no oversight, With billions flowing. Anytime you have a scenario like that it is ripe for corruption. The US isn't cutting foreign aid entirely. We are analyzing it very carefully to make sure the fraud is eliminated as much as possible. That's a good thing for everybody.

@hayleymccallum9142 Trudeau said that he wasn't going to cooperate with Trump. After their phone call he announced how he is complying with Trump's demands on border security. Trudeau, or any Canadian Prime Minister, has no choice but to comply with us demands. The US refines a ton of Canadian thick, sulfurous, crude oil, otherwise the Canadian economy would be in the toilet. The US also manufactures and supplies Canada's primary defense systems.

@saltmerchant749 I've personally witnessed Europe transform into societies that look nothing like they did in the 1970s & 1980s, because stupid feminists in parliaments have encouraged women to murder Europe's future in the womb, then import non-Europeans who don't have work ethic instead. They reproduce at 2-6x the rate of Europeans, expecting the social welfare system to support them, without any net contribution. That's the real underlying economic problem.

@55metalmonkey The fact that you said "tariffs on Americans" shows that you don't understand the very basics of what a tariff is. Only 15% of the US economy is exports and we're the second biggest exporter in the world. The US exports products and services that other countries can't get anywhere else.

By no later than 1890, the US had become the largest economy in the world, which it has held ever since.

@55metalmonkey Recessions are a normal part of the monetary cycle. The main causes of financial crashes in the 1800s was different experiments with banking. The European banking records during the US Civil War are still sealed to this day, so There was a lot going on with the old European money powers wanting to harness and exploit the newly-expanding resources of America. Any analysis of US financial history that stays limited to the US alone, without taking into consideration the old Empire powers, will never give you a clear picture of why things happened the way they did. The short answer is that European powers saw the US as a cash cow and wanted to control as much of it as possible.
