@geneoh5048 Russia has never had a strong economy. It's a very poor, isolated, frozen land mass cut-off from the important global trade routes, with precious little infrastructure to support internal movement of goods.

@jacarandaization After WWII, Finland was forced to pay $300 million in "reparations" to Russia, and was dictated what kind of military it could have. Russia seeded Finland full of communists in the government, the Finnish News service YLE, Finnish universities, and military leaders. Then reprisals were committed on Finnish war veterans and heroes like Lauri Törni, who were trying to prepare for another Russian invasion, throwing them in prison in their own country. Russia relied on Finland for many things during the Cold War, including imports of processed wood products, paper, machinery, and construction engineering services to name a few. There's a reason why Russia installed the rail system in Finland in the mid-1800s so Finnish goods could be railed into Russia and Russians could move into Finland more freely.

@jacarandaization I've spent a good bit of my life in Finland as my mom is Finnish, and much of my family lives there. The Finnish model has been misrepresented to Finns from within using state propaganda through YLE and the universities. Marxism-Socialism is not only taught, but practiced heavily in Finland using government policy to suppress achievement so that everyone is as close to a poverty level as possible. Finns are then told how wonderful this system is repeatedly with Pavlovian reinforcement through most of the information systems. What makes Finland a nice country are the lakes, clean water, forests, countryside, sauna, and high % of summer cabins people can retreat to on weekends to decompress from city life. These features have nothing to do with government policy, but the form of government is credited for things it does not do.
