A land route across the greatest changes in elevation (up and down inclines for roads with exorbitant energy costs), 2. Through the most warlord-infested regions of the world, where hundreds of billions worth of goods should pass through unmolested, 3. With no ability to provide security for those goods. Meanwhile the normal, cheapest trade routes on the seas will continue to be far more efficient, but will become more regional and subject to state piracy as shortages continue to expand.

  3. ​​ @zolnsalt  Zeihan has been forecasting the Russian invasion of Ukraine for many years, even saying 2022 was the last year Russia has their chance due to population decline and its effects on the available number of conscripts. I've been following his forecasts since the 2000s, since one of the Russian Foreign Minister's deputies said they were taking back all their historic territories in the early-mid 2000s.

Saudi's entire security apparatus is built on internal control of Shiites and preventing uprisings instigated by Iran, while also fighting Yemenis. They have zero reach into the Central Asian Republics with their military. Have you looked at a map of the Belt & Road plan? Imagine trying to move goods through Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey. It's as if they gave a fat crayon to a mongoloid and said, "Draw me a road from China to Europe. Bonus points if it goes through some of the most unstable, thief-ridden regions of Asia, and over as many mountains as you can find."
