  3.  @Nicks_Pic  Hospitals in NYC were especially overwhelmed back or at least completely full back in the spring. In countless hospitals around the country right now most are at their maximum. It is also true of many that hospitals often cannot transfer patients to another facility in their region because the other hospitals are maxed out or close it as well. Believe what you want or look it up and educate yourself.

  4. It is important to get tested so the health department can understand how and where the virus is spreading. This allows them to recommend to the governor what areas may need to shut down or restrict businesses as well recommend other policies like stay at home policies and mask wearing policies. Besides without such information the virus could spread into populations of vulnerable people such as nursing homes. Without testing authorities would have no idea how extensive the spread is.

  5. That is why testing is so important because a person could be unknowingly spreading the virus because they are asymptomatic or think they have a cold or flu. If a person develops more serious symptoms they should get treated asap, but if hospitals are overwhelmed with patients then treatment may be delayed until a person is really sick or compromised because the hospital is so full of patients. That is an especially big concern in rural hospitals.

It is believed to aerosolize meaning it can be transmitted through the air, but it is also generally accepted that a high viral load is necessary for someone to get infected. That means that a prolonged exposure to someone who is infected to catch the virus. Having said that this virus is very infectious like the flu or the common cold, but is potentially much more lethal. At least 260,000 have died from Covid since March. The high case count and death rate means we are likely to see well in excess of 400,000 dead from Covid by February next year and probably sooner. That isn't my opinion. That is what infectious disease doctors are saying.

Of course they also usually ignore his many failures. Anyway it is absurdly easy to access the extensive record of Trump's lies because no body has lied like Trump perhaps ever. Just google "Trump's lies" and add Politico to that search because that site has been documenting Trump's lies since his campaign.

  22.  @comment6864  The PCR test has been shown to be more reliable then the antibody test. In addition false negatives are much more likely then false positives. The PCR test is thus the best first step in tracking the extent of the virus. But testing is not adequate by itself because contact tracing is also important in tracking outbreaks. Combined with mask wearing, social distancing and not gatheringarge groups we know how to manage this pandemic. The problem is a president who has misinformed this pandemic for his own political gain. This has made all the above tools almost useless in some cases. Our death rate should be well under 100,000 but for the poor leadership from Trump. Trump knows nothing about science so listening to him is no different then listening to the average carnival barker trying you get you to play his game.

  23.  @jorgyr36  Herd immunity doesn't occur until we hit an infection rate of 60 to 70 % and we aren't even half way there. There is also the question of what immunity a person actually gains from having contracted the virus. The science is still out on that question. Genuine herd immunity won't occur until 60 to 70% of the population has been immunized. And no one knows how long that immunity will last.

If businesses do not follow the directions from the health department which are intended to slow the spread of transmission then they should be shut down or at least restricted in a way that slows virus transmission. Beyond that I know that the health dept does not shut down any business permanently, only until transmission of the virus is reduced. If a business goes under because of being shut down that is an unfortunate consequence of this pandemic which has caused 1000's to fold permanently.

  32.  @bunniebuns300  The CDC and others say there is good evidence that the Covid virus spreads through the air, or aerosolized as it were, but a person is not likely to become infected by the virus just walking through a space where an infected person had been talking. Covid is very infectious, but it still provides an extended exposure to someone close by to get to a sufficient viral load. So several minutes near a person talking loudly and especially coughing or sneezing for example.

I am concerned about what is going on in this pandemic, but definately not freaking out as you mischaracterized me as doing. I really don't care if you found doctors who are not freaking out. Doctors tend to be low key anyway especially being videotaped. After all I had a brother who passed away from a rare disorder 6 months ago was a busy transplant surgeon and I knew very well how concerned he was by this pandemic. .

Besides that I see numerous news stories of reporters and people being interviewed wearing a mask. This pandemic affects everyone and while most of won't get seriously ill we all have the capacity to get the virus and transmit it. People are much more likely to get a false NEGATIVE then a false positive. The data is very clear about that. We are all in this together whether we like it or not.

  42.  @iSlandeRon  A person can get a false negative for many reasons. Like getting a test soon after exposure so the viral load is insufficient to show up on the test. Or the sample drawn is inadequately drawn. Or a mistake was made in processing the test. The PCR test is still the best we have right now and much better from every report I have seen then the antibody test. Since the world hasn't seen a pandemic like this in 100 years it is understandable that there is a lot of confusion and questions about policy like shutting down businesses or stay at home orders. What doesn't help is when politicians turn the pandemic into a partisan issue in order to gain support from the base. Trump has lied and misinformed people about this pandemic since day one which has only served to confuse people and compromised how this country responded to the virus. In other words Trump is why the US has had the worse response to the virus resulting in the most cases and deaths in the world. I just edited this comment to say that false 'negatives' can happen for several reasons. I mistaken said false positives instead of false negatives.

  46.  @jayminnie13  What is missing from your comment is any understanding that leaders like Trump serve as role models for the people of the country. A leader can inspire the people do more as citizens which FDR did with his many positive programs like the American Conservation Corps. Leaders can also mislead the population as Trump has done in numerous circumstances. For example Trump has displayed a very dismissive attitude toward mask wearing in contrast to Dr Fauci who strongly advocated for mask wearing. Trump also disagreed with statements Fauci has made simply because Trump can't handle anyone else getting more attention than he does. Trump never had any reasoning or evidence to disagree with Fauci, but then he never has any evidence for his comments which were only meant to misinform. When Trump added Scott Atlas to his medical team he was clearly seeking to sideline Fauci and Birx. Trump wanted another toadie who would echo Trump's misinfomation about the pandemic. Atlas was a radiologist for christ's sake and had no experience in infection disease treatment which of course was what Fauci had done his whole career. Again this resulted in Trump supporters having a attitude toward Fauci and Birx which Trump never bothered to dispel. Anyway the consequences for this was that many conservatives protested wearing a mask turning it into partisan issue which it isn't. Wearing a mask is just common sense to protect ourselves and our fellow Americans. And several unhinged Michiganers even showed up the capital armed with rifles to protest the governors restrictions because of the pandemic! Those are just a couple of countless examples of how Trump has misled many Americans to act irresponsibly and to follow him even though he so misinforms eveyone including his followers. Trump is the worst example of what a leader is meant to be and do that I can think of.

They grasp for an alternative explanation to this pandemic which is more comforting because they can't accept the reality of this pandemic with so many people dying and getting seriously ill. This is why Trump has been such an utter failure in facing this pandemic because besides having never developed a national policy to confront this virus he has made dismissive comments about Dr's Fauci and Birx. Trump has also made dismissive comments about mask wearing and generally has set a very poor example in how we should be confronting this virus. Trump's pathetic response to this pandemic is part of the reason he wasn't reelected. If Trump had shown even a moderate level of leadership in facing this oandemic he likely would have been reelected. But, no Trump has been full on anti-acience, disagreeing with his own medical advisors on the pandemic, but never with a shred of evidence to justify any of the nonsense he was pushing. Biden himself has said he wouldn't shut down the country though he will likely institute a mask mandate which makes perfect sense because doctors all agree that masks work. Plus the vaccine will be start coming out soon and should begin to provide relief after a majority of the population gets vaccinated. And Biden won't do anything remotely communist because he still believes in a capitalist system, but with certain constraints which is logical. Unrestrained capitalism is why what gets this country has economic problems such as with the 2009 Great Recession. If business is not regulated in some way they become corrupt leading economic instability and greater disparity in wealth which is part of the problem today. Trump was only concerned with supporting businesses especially the wealthy ones by cutting regulations meant to protect workers and the public. We all lose under such regressive policies. Oh and Trump was bad in many ways setting this country back by cutting regulations on corporations, by his antagonistic attitude with everyone except those who blindly loyal to Trump. That is why republicans rarely countered Trump because they were afrsid of getting primaried by a Trump loyalist or simply shamed publicly.   53.  @big6700  False. People described as asymptomatic were in fact having NO symptoms yet tested positive for the Covid virus. Thus people could be Covid positive and not even know it, but could also transmit the virus. That is what doctors are saying.

  57.  Objective Reality  I saw that video of Reiner Fuellmich and wonder how you justify your screen name with a guy pushing a very extreme perspective which he doesn't justify very well. He calls it a staged pandemic with no explanation. And he says it is no worse then the common flu at .14 infection mortality. Fuellmich says nothing to back up this statement or explain how over 1.4 million have died because of this virus in the world. That is way more then die from the flu in an average year and the year isn't over yet.

I watched the interview with this guy Reiner Fuellmich who basically said that the PCR test is fraud in the way it is used, that the pandemic is staged, and that virus is no more lethal then the common flu, but doesn't present any evidence for any of his claims. He is consumer protection lawyer who from my perspective doesn't have a ounce of the credibilty that Ralph Nader has. There is a guy who was an attorney who knew his stuff and has been fighting for protections for Americans since the sixties. Nader also didn't buy into baseless conspiracy theories! Nuff said.
