@philipmann5317 The Russians wouldn't even come to support Assad against the rebels and while they are still in Syria it is only because it is difficult for them to get all their equipment out in short order and they don't want to leave it to entities they don't support. And I see HTS moving in a positive direction to stabilize Syria through offering an inclusive policy toward minorities and other positive steps. If anyone can stabilize Syria it is probably with the efforts by the rebel coalition such as it is.

@philipmann5317 By 'they' I assume you are referring to the current transitional government in Syria!? And that is probably true about not demonizing Israel, but the methodical way that Israel is destroying all former weapons and munitions in Syria to prevent them falling into the wrong hands is not a good will gesture in any way. And it is the new government of Syria that will have to clean up the mess left behind by Israel!!

@Mandems973 If you don't care for the NYT then who do you follow? Because I have noticed that a lot of critics of the Times follow another publication that is even worse or they follow social media almost exclusively which is a sure way to be misinformed!! I read the bits of the Times on Sunday and see it just one of many sources that I follow. No one source has all the answers. And of course it is important to always read any given media source with a certain skeptical eye.

That never bowing down is Israel's strength and it will be its eventual downfall because their military has shown little distinction between killing Hezbollah or Hamas vs also killing civilians. Over 45,000 have been killed in Gaza alone and most of those were women and children. Israel has also done little to ensure aid gets into Gaza. By their violent actions Israel has created far more enemies than they hoped to eliminate by their actions. The Israel siege of Gaza was and is genocide. And the targeting of Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon with cell phones showed little concern for innocent bystanders. Children were killed in this vicious attack. This is state sponsored terrorism. In addition Netanyahu is way over due to be indicted and tried for corruption charges raised before he was even elected!! Thus Netanyahu is like trump, another corrupt official who gets elected to avoid prosecution for his offences.

What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore— And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over— like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode? This poem by Langston Hughes describes the experience of the Palestinians in Gaza. When a people is subjected to occupation, detention and torture with charge, and other repressive policies that prevent even their leaving their land why are people surprised when it explodes??

@friedrichrubinstein I don't know where you got this perspective from, but it is entirely false. Have you not kept up with the frequent news reports? Over 45,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel began its invasion. Israel has bombed every part of Gaza leaving no safe place for them to go. In addition food aid has been restricted and medical aid has been restricted. Aid workers journalists have often been killed by the IDF who seem to want to extinguish any sign of the genocide being perpetrated on the Palestinians. Genocide is the word used by Amnesty International for the crime that Israel has committed in Gaza. They have also called for the prosecution of Hamas leaders who are guilty of Oct. 7 attack so their perspective cannot be construed as biased. The International Criminal Court has also called for the arrest of Netanyahu and the Hamas leaders for their crimes. There is evidence that Netanyahu pushed for the continuation of the war to avoid his own prosecution for corruption charges initiated from before this invasion even took place. And notice too how Netanyahu did not make a greater effort to secure the release of the hostages!! It has been said by many observers that Israel has adopted the attitudes of the nazis who persecuted the Jews and forced them to live in the ghettos often killing them in WW ll.
