  1.  @uncletrashero  This balloon got into trouble too close to the ground according to the news report. A parachute wouldn't have had time to open.

  2. Ballooning is fairly common in New Mexico and the largest balloon festival possibly in the world has been happening for decades here in Albuquerque. Frequently there are half a dozen balloons going up in Albuquerque in the morning. So I don't see it as high risk at all. There is risk with all kinds of outdoor activities.

  5. It's not like it hasn't happened before and some people are willing to take the risk. There are riskier activities out there.

  6. Life is full of risks. It all depends on which ones we are willing to take on.

  7. You can"t stop people from doing various outdoor activities. People die from mountain climbing so should all mountain climbing be banned. Or sky diving, or car racing, or scuba diving?? People die from all of these activities, but are still willing to take the risk.

  9. The high power lines are much higher then 80 feet. This story left a lot unanswered. This is my town. I look forward to finding out what happened.

  11.  @cleo5892  I figured as much because if had been practical to implement a parachute or chutes in a hot air balloon it what have been done a long time ago. But the people who don't understand ballooning in the first place are so quick with their armchair solutions.
