  7.  @ryand8406  The difference is because we are at a point where we are making tiny incremental steps in reducing mortality from things like cancer and heart disease. The covid pandemic is something we knew how to face, but Trump completely sabotaging the effort even before the pandemic started. Consequently, because of the lack of leadership from the WH the US has far more cases and deaths then any other country in the world. Here are the specific ways trump has failed to provide any leadership in this pandemic. 1) Trump terminated the task force in the WH created under Obama to confront a pandemic early on which of course handicapped the US in confronting the covid pandemic. 2) Trump refused to initiate a mandate to coordinate industry in the production of PPE resulting in an extreme shortage throughout the country compromising the protection of medical professionals. 3) trump also cut funding to the CDC and WHO as well as castigating them with baseless insults thus compromising their credibility. 4) trump also failed to model the value of mask wearing which is very effective in controlling spread of the covid virus. trump was dismissive of mask use to the point of insulting others who wear masks. This created a following of rebellious trump followers refusing to wear a mask. This in one sense the explosive number of cases and deaths in the US is understandable. trump was using his own policy of herd immunity to push as many people to get infected as possible again explaining why we have over 340 thousand who have died from covid in this country. Even India with FOUR TIMES the population has no where near the deaths as the US. trump failed to protect this country from this pandemic thus is important that he will leave office Jan 20.
