If you are asking for a 'purpose' to the fire you are ASSUMING that the fire was intentional and there reason to jump to the conclusion. . Fires can crop up on the plains for numerous reasons. Burning yard trash that goes out of control when a strong wind suddenly kicks up, electrical short, tossed cigarette, arson of course and lightening to name but a few causes of wild fires. But it is the unusually warm weather, dry conditions and high wind that make for dangerous fire conditions. Grassland or prairie fires as they are called have been going on for decades centuries even, but it is the aforementioned conditions brought by climate change more frequently that make fires like this more likely. So stop looking for some nefarious even plot where there is none.
