This is the largest TB outbreak since the 50's when regular monitoring started. So there were major outbreaks before then.

It's a 3 minute and 15 second video. Stop assuming that a short news brief about is going to answer all of your questions including the origin of this outbreak.

@solice8844 You have zero evidence that this TB outbreak is from someone coming over the southern border. It could just as easily be someone who traveled to another country and unknowingly brought it back to this country. I prefer to let disease control specialists work out things like that. People guessing about the origin like6 do not help the situation at all!!!

Why do you have to immediately go blaming someone? Just because there were reports of gas leaks there doesn't mean the leaks weren't investigated. Bottom line? Focus on fixing the problem not the blame!!

Vaccinations for children stopped in 2005 because the prevalence of TB was so low. The people who need to consider vaccination are those in that area in Kansas.

@kathleneda. Correlation is not causation!! In other words just because you see a lot of people vaping is not a reason for that to be the cause in an increase in infections even IF there is such an increase!!

This is the recommended treatment from the CDC to treat Latent TB. "There are several treatment regimens recommended in the United States for latent TB infection. The medications used to treat latent TB infection include the following: Isoniazid (INH) Rifapentine (RPT) Rifampin (RIF)"

@solice8844 Covid in 2020 didn't come over the southern border to cause the outbreak in the US. The Measles outbreak that hit Disney in 2014 didn't come from over the border. SARS in 2002 also didn't come over the border. You can look at one outbreak after another and none of them originated from south of the border!!

@googleuser You have to look at the whole context of what this Dr stated. She said we see outbreaks every year, we see cases every year. Both could be true. An outbreak might be a dozen cases for example. But this is the first outbreak since the 1950's. And don't listen to people like Jennifer Cheney. She is clearly not informed and probably follows maga propaganda based on her comment!

@bubblebuffy I have heard at another source that this was the largest outbreak since the early 1950's when monitoring of TB began. The vaccine was developed 30 years earlier by Calmette/Guerin in 1921

Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is the live attenuated vaccine form of Mycobacterium bovis used to prevent tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections. The vaccine was developed by Calmette and Guerin and was first administered to human beings in 1921. BCG is the only vaccine against tuberculosis".

TB is not like other infectious diseases that children receive vaccines for. Vaccination of children for TB ended in 2005. When the occurrence of a disease becomes very low it is no longer justified to immunize all children. This is the first major outbreak of TB in the US since the 1950's!! That should tell you something!!
