  1. It's incorrect to say that they have no idea. The models do show it moving toward Texas and likely coming ashore there, but the is the uncertain part because the storm is moving so slowly. Slow moving storms are very hard to model accurately. So they have an idea, but once it approaches the coast it becomes harder to predict.

  2.  Scott fleming  Weather prediction has gotten better in the last decade in predicting the behavior of hurricanes. It's true however, that prediction is only reasonably accurate a few days into the future and the same goes true for predicting hurricanes. And as they have often said lately, slow moving hurricanes are especially difficult to predict owing to the unpredictable nature of numerous variables that must be taken into account with weather prediction. So what they are saying is Beta will continue to move toward the Texas coast, but again because it is moving so slowly it is hard to predict its track as it bears the coast. Will it move it inland and dissipate or turn and move up the coast. That all seems like a lot more then having no idea. And yes that's a lot of words to just come to that simple conclusion.
