That's why JWST was designed to last with less moving parts. JWST could last up to 20 years because of the perfect orbital insertion by there Ariane 5 launch vehicle. Of course things can still go wrong such as with the one instrument in MIRI. Meanwhile the other instruments continue to work fine.

@tankourito5419 You and Ted sound like your expectations were unreasonable about how long it would take the JWST to get images out. NASA may produce a image 12 hours which is actually the longest so far, but it takes considerably longer to process the image. Where did you get the idea that NASA would get images out every few days for example? I never heard such a claim from NASA. And images from previous telescopes weren't available that quickly either.

Hopefully you are joking because there is no laughing emoji!? Otherwise why carastrophize because one instrument on one of four main instruments is in the repair shop so to speak? The JWST will continue even if that instrument issue cannot be resolved.

NASA has decades of experience repairing instruments remorely that stopped working on previius telescooes and space probes.

@J_5612 NASA did NOT shut the whole thing down. The video said no such thing!! ONE instrument has been shut down while the rest work perfectly!!

Even when the JWST has taken images in the same place as Hubble it is not repeating Hubble as much as giving us a better view of the same place. Plus because JW can see deep into Infrared it can those images in a way Hubble never could.

@johnc3351 😂😅. You clearly don't even understand the nature of the problem with what is just ONE instrument on the JWST. One instrument on MIRI is having an issue and it was shut down while the team works on the problem. All of the other instruments continue to work perfectly.

@Mr Happy face. Those probes we're good for their tine, but the technology of current probes far exceeds anything those probes have done. So I don't get why you are going on about the Voyagers.
2
Not entirely. One instrument was made in Europe and one in Canada and the rest here in the US. 😅😅

@dansands6363 😂😅.

Talk to Congress because they are responsible for how money is spent by the government.

Conspiracy theory will warp your brain dude!!

@ceasarronaldo77. You might think that, but most people familiar with the JWST know that such a thing as thrusters to get it back to earth orbit for servicing would be very impractical. You have to take into account the thrusters and the fuel for such a journey and then it still has to get BACK to L2. All that would have added considerable mass to JW for the liftoff. Totally impractical.

The images from the JWST did not disprove the BBT. Several astrophysicists have already made that clear. But if you want to keep following and believing click bait channels that's your business.

If it keeps getting louder each time you hear it then you need to stop turning the volume up! 😅

Actually this telescope builds on previous Infrared telescopes like Spitzer and Hershel telescopes. The team learned from those how to build a better more powerful telescope in the JWST.

It's not the mid-infrared images that are the issue, but the medium resolution spectroscopy in MIRI that is the issue. That was stated in the video! Duh!
