😅😂. And what kind of "help" could possibly lead to this river drying up as it is?? Actually the "help" you are looking for is climate change, or global warming or whatever we call it. The Mississippi River is one of many places around the world suffering from extreme drought. The southwest, rivers in Europe dried up all over the continent during the summer on. And there was also extreme flooding around the world like in Kentucky. All are signs of global warming influence.

Nobody is serious about piping water from the Mississippi River to Lake Mead. That is nothing more than idle talk!!
4
Why do you doubt the water could be salty as implied by your comment? And what other inaccuracies are you referring to?
3
Why does anyone begin a massive infrastrructure project when only a fraction of the funding has been secured?? When I first heard about this project a few years ago my first concern was to the rainforest of Borneo which is home to the oranutang among numerous other unique and threatened species. And what's to stop this new capital called Nusantara to not develop the same problems that created the reasons to move the capital in the first place?? Jakarta is sinking because of an over reliance on ground water which is in fact also a global problem. And with the climate warming the over use of ground water could worsen.

@BroAnarchy The JUICE probe will survey all of those largest moons except Io which is not part of their mission. Besides with Io being closer to Jupiter any probe would exposed to the severe radiation coming from the planet. And also the Europa Clipper to be launched next year by NASA will be exploring Europa so it's all good.

If you look a little deeper you'll find why Iceland is a relatively peaceful place to live. Just because there are 130 volcanoes on the island nation doesn't they all erupt. Many are extinct. And there are eruptions maybe a couple times every decade. Even the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010 that shut down air traffic around northern Europe did not directly impact Iceland seriously. On the island of Sumatra a volcano called Marapi erupted without warning a couple weeks ago killing a couple dozen people hiking on the mountain. And the Indonesian country is composed of 130 active volcanoes and people have learned to live with them with only occasional casualties. Compare what is going on Iceland to the hurricanes that threaten the east coast and Gulf of the US and the island nations. Somewhere in that area there are hurricanes EVERY SINGLE YEAR. And tornadoes are common through the central to eastern part of the US. Would you tell all of them to move as well??

😅😂. Unfortunately, it will take some people longer to catch on to what is going on to how global warming is influencing the weather with more severe drought, flood, heat wave etc. This drought has been affecting the Mississippi River for months and you come along and call it BS with zero evidence or rational or anything approaching critical thinking. But keep trying and you'll get there. It has taken me most of my life as well to begin to understand.

Hello?? Boeing has been involved with developing rockets to space for 50 + years, they didn't just "hop onto space". It is their management structure that has broken down ever since the Boeing/McDonald Douglas merger and engineering has suffered.
1
@oscrc. When drought causes the Mississippi River to drop more frequently and now breaking the old record that should be a sign that there is more going on than just natural changes of the water level going up and down. There have also been extreme droughts on the rivers all over Europe. Again record level drought. Lake Mead and Powell have both dropped to record low levels due to prolonged drought in the southwest. All of these are weather conditions worsened by global warming. This is a harbinger of things to come.
1
Oh, yeah that makes a lot of sense with the head waters of the Mississippi River over a 1000 miles from the coast!! And then there is the fact that salt water would decimate the environment that isn't used to having salt water. Plus the salt water is just going to run out to sea anyway and the river bed will be dry again and worse off. 🙄 Try thinking these things through first which is good practice for every day Life!!
1
On the contrary. Your feeble marginalizing of dei as the source of the problems at Boeing ignores the larger problem that resulted from the Boeing/McDonald Douglas merger back in 1997 that gradually led to a decay in engineering as the management at top became the bigger problem.
1
And the geothermal plant has no impact on the eruption either.
1
@zippyhealer That's interesting, but how we know there is salt present by observing the magnetic field?
1
@harrysingh_ That's interesting. I need to study this further.
1
Global warming causes an increase in drought and flood and heat waves. Flooding is more intense because the warming atmosphere holds more moisture. Warmer temperatures also lead to more evaporation.
1
@justplanes295 China is not Texas. Two countries thousands of miles apart with different geography and weather. And what is drought in one place is not drought in another. Come back tomorrow for a lesson on why winter is generally colder than summer!!
1
Cloud seeding is greatly exaggerated technology. Conspiracy theory proponents use to fit their agenda of "someone controlling our weather". 🙄. The drought that caused the Mississippi River to drop so low is part of climate change that is also causing more serious flooding around the world.
1
@KB-ke3fi Then what are you doing here or you just practicing judging others as you learn how to troll?!
1
We have both drought AND flooding becoming more intense. And of course there are also heat waves which are becoming more intense and more widespread.
1
@IpSyCo Not yet anyway.
1
@IpSyCo Well you did say that you weren't having too many problems with drought over in the 'east'. Parts of New England are experiencing drought now. And yes the Midwest is likely to see increased precipitation. Kentucky showed that side to us. And therein lies the problem. Already dry areas are expected to drier while wet areas are likely to get wetter. And this isn't just what is forecast for the US alone, but worldwide!!
1
Your figures are off and not by a little. Space X was awarded 2.6 billion to design and build Dragon. Boeing was awarded 4.2 billion to design and build Starliner. Boeing also spent at least 1.4 billion more to get Starliner flight worthy and still couldn't get it right. The engineering culture at Boeing has apparently suffered because of poor management oversight.
1
Some day maybe you'll realize that God has nothing to do with the randomness phenomena in the world and weather is one of those random phenomena!!
1
No flights will be canceled because this is not a volcano that threatens air flight.
1
@jdwallace6312 You are missing the point. The load on a barge can only be reduced so much after which it is not longer profitable to ship the commodity by barge anymore. On some sections of the Mississippi River barge traffic has stopped completely because the water level is so low.
1
It's not a pole shift and yeah I did look it up.
1
Our winter is cold already!?!? What convincing evidence that we are entering an ice age!? 🙄🙄. Pay no attention to that detail that this year was the first time the earth past 1.5 C average temperature for the planet. And NEXT year is expected to be warmer.
1
I have heard that uninformed statement over and over and the people who say it usually don't follow the exploration of space at all. And one of the things you miss by not following space exploration by these planetary probes is how much we learn about the universe. The more we understand our universe the better we understand our place in it. In addition to that there are countless technological spinoffs from the instruments that are developed to study the universe. Do a search of The Benefits of Space exploration and you find countless examples of technologies developed here on earth for many fields including imaging instruments in medicine.
1
Not likely anymore. The eruption has consolidated to one or two fissures in the north with dramatically reduced lava production. No can for certain the Grindavik will be spared but at least from this eruption it should be okay.
1
Your math and or memory needs work. Space X was paid 2.6 billion to design and build Dragon. Boeing was paid 4.2 billion to design and build Starliner. That is not even 2 X as much. Boeing has poured another 1.4 billion into Starliner to make it flight worthy and yet they are still having trouble.
1
So then what's you point?
1
It is only partly true that volcanoes of Iceland being on a divergent plate boundary are not explosive. Hekla and Katla are both stratovolcanoes producing basaltic/andesite lava. They had eruptions up in the VEI 4-5 range. Eyjafjallajökull another stratovolcano which erupted in 2010 has a basaltic andesite magma which produced ash intense enough to shut down air traffic into northern Europe for several days.
1
@KB-ke3fi The evidence for global warming is quite extensive and became more refined and focused all the time. Global warming is becoming an existential threat to life in Earth. I could give you numerous links that go into extensive detail about global warming. But you don't sound receptive to hearing something you have already made up your mind about. Your five word dismissive comment says more about you anyway which someday you'll gain insight about. Have a good day.
1
That is because we need to find the guide within ourselves to guide us. Periodically we inevitably hook up with people who mentor us for a time, but only if we are open to it.
1
It's the Reykjanes Peninsula not the wrecking us peninsula!!! 🙄
1
@JoshuaDanielSwing You are referring to the Gaia Hypothesis which was made a household term by James Lovelock. The earth does act as though it is living thing because it regulates countless different aspects that make life possible. This can also be explained as a natural manifestation of physics in which all systems tend toward an equilibrium.
1
@JoshuaDanielSwing One could arguably say that the vengeance has started!
1
@JoshuaDanielSwing That's probably a good thing that you can tell which side I'm am. That leads to a more authentic dialog imo.
1
In case you haven't noticed just about anywhere one chooses to live on earth there is some sort of natural hazard. Volcanic eruptions, earthquake, hurricanes and tornadoes are a threat to people all over the planet and yet people learn to live them.
1
😂😅. It is stories like this that some people label as fear mongering on "sensationalist horror". Seems to me more likely that they just have trouble with the truth of what is going on in the world. Cuz this kind of thing has been going on all over the world increasingly.
1
What do you mean IF it's real?? Of course it's real!! There are videos from numerous sources showing the eruption.
1
@artstation707 In point of fact there are a lot more hazardous places to live in the world than in Iceland. Areas that are vulnerable to hurricanes, tornadoes, fires and floods come to mind.
1
@bluefoxblitz8416 "Weather patterns doing their thing" and weather is being enhanced by global warming. These droughts and floods are often the worst on record and more frequent. And that is exactly what global warming does with the weather. The dice are now loaded with two sixes or two fives leading to extreme weather occuring more often and more severely.
1
@mikef1570 Exactly!
1
@davidh1099 And how do you figure? There is ice age expected to return for thousands of years. The warming we are experiencing now is in direct correlation to the rising levels of GHG.
1
More specifically it is a fissure eruption but still a volcano. If you look up different kinds of volcanoes fissure volcanoes are of them.
