Actually the chances of JW working as planned are pretty high imo because as was explained in this video and others the team practiced the deployment process many times to work any problems and feel confident about the process. They left as little to chance as possible.

The JWST was launched by Arianespace not the ESA. But you were close.

That --83 degrees was clearly a typo.

Hopefully a future telescope can build on Hubble's accomplishments.

It is happening. The sun shield is fully deployed and now the second mirror is being extended and secured. The team working on the JW practiced the deployment rigorously for years to work out all the problems and to get confident with the whole process.

I suspect that we will find the universe is still the same age, but with the JW we will see further back in time to the earliest galaxies as well as other amazing sights.

Good spot!!

Dr John Mather is a senior engineer on the team said in another video that he knew the team did everything they could to prepare the JWST for its flight that he doesn't worry about it. That is great wisdom for life..

NASA has gotten better and better at building complex space craft that have numerous single point failures. The Mars Rover Perseverance had over 100 and it executed all perfectly. .the key is the team tested and retested the entire instrument to work out any potential problems so that by the time of launch they were confident it would work well. And thus far it has.

And they got it done perfectly BECAUSE the team had practiced sun shield many times to get confident about it and work out any potential problems.
