@jakesnake165 That makes no sense!! What disaster do you think scientists are causing??
7
@R. Is it also beyond your comprehension why people live on the east coast or gulf which have a higher likelyhood of being hit by a hurricane?? Or how about the South Central Plains and southeast that are prone to tornadoes?? And how about millions of acres thoughout the west that are prone to forest fires?? Where in the country can you live where there is no risk?? It doesn't exist!!
3
It has always been just a matter of time!!

The hypocrisy of these misguided eastern Oregonians is quite striking. For one thing they are ignoring the numerous states around the country in which republicans are forcing their attitudes on others in their states such as with abortion rights or transgender rights. In fact in Idaho a total abortion restriction bill passed which took effect on August 25, 2022 following other republican states with similar restrictive laws. They need to clean up their own hypocrisy before trying to push their agenda!! This story also seriously failed in not citing a single issue that these conservatives in eastern Oregon are so worked up about.

@mikhailpokrovscky2236 Apparently, Linda really had to work at it to make the transition to singing those Mexican classics in a live performance. And that was the amazing thing about Linda Ronstadt in not being afraid to try whatever interested her. She ignored the stupid limiting comments by record company producers that it would ruin her career and of course it never did.
2
No one thought of that until you brought it up. Thanks for nothing!!
2
Statistically speaking yes, but nothing is for sure just more likely.
2
It is not is if you would ever miss it anyway snowflake!!
1
Primarily because it was a strike slip earthquake in which one plate moves horizontally past another plate. That was along or near the San Andreas Fault. In that case the Pacific Plate is sliding north northwest in relation to the North American Plate. These earthquakes do not displace water upwards like a subduction zone quake does which will eventually happen off the northwest coast.
1
Of course. You only have the occasional hurricane to deal with. You obviously were not in Michael's path two years ago otherwise you might be singing a different tune.
1
Predicting when a earthquake will happen is entirely based on probabilities unlike volcanoes which usually give a warning. So right now the best they can say is it is a one in three chance in the next 50 years.
1
@TheReactor8 Ta-nehisi Coates is not a white hater at all! He is talking about what he sees and has lived. You are speaking from the White Privilege point of view as most white people do without even seeing it in themselves! I'm white and I get my own white privilege!
1
What's the matter? Disappointed?? And why is that funny??
1
What does Fukashima have to do with the earthquake threat in the northwest??
1
Maga and republicans excel in hypocrisy like it was a badge of honor!
1
If you think that then you need to watch several of his videos. You are projecting your own animus which colors your perspective!
1
The tsunami is more likely then the asteroid!
1
So did Texas, but you forgot about that didn't you?? What does that matter anyway?
1
Unfortunately it will probably take a few more Cat 5's hitting the east coast, F-5 tornadoes in the plains and more Paradise like fire storms to wake people up!! Tough times ahead!
1
In many, but not all locations did that happen. The topography of the land determined that.
1
As opposed to what everyone says which is of no help at all UNLESS it is supportive, understanding and compassionate!!
1
That was a different circumstance and not relevant to what is going on now because there is nothing like the Tuskegee experiment going on now. At least as far as we know.
1
You better ask Juan what de fuco he was thinking when he named that tectonic plate. Maybe it was a really spicy dish with an explosive reaction when he tried to reach the bathroom!!
1
Sorry skippy, but you are full of BS. There is ample evidence of the accretion of sediments from subducting plates!!
1
It doesn't work like that. Besides the odds are like infinitesimal.
1
The only people who are afraid are the snowflakes who prefer that everyone lives in denial of the hazards in the world just like they do. Afterall that is how the snowflakes elected rhe current WH president. The snowflakes were and are in complete denial of the threat that this monster poses to all of us. I am more concerned with that then a 9.0 earthquake hitting the US. The monster is already free and terrorizing the world while the earthquake hasn't happened yet and may not for some time.
1
Only if the volcano, such as Rainer, heats up enough to melt the snow. A strong quake would only cause an avalanche or two.
1
Apparently that was the best selling spanish language music album ever. And that is testament to Linda's perseverence to learn to sing that music because as she stated in her documentary, The Sound Of My Voice, that even though she sang Spanish songs as a child it is very different to perform them as an adult.
1
What's the matter? Disappointed??
1
Easy to say from your lounge chair!!
1
Do you say the same about people who live on the Gulf or East Coasts??
1
I think the implication (by showing the Japan earthquake images) that a Juan de Fuco earthquake could be like the Tohoku quake and tsunami is somewhat overstated. . The Puget Sound will have some degree of deflection and diminuation of a tsunami wave which was not the case of most of the northern Japanese coast which was a wide open target for a tsunami. The Northwest Coast is less populated then the Japan coast. That tsunami should have been better forseen by the relevant entities because of the history of past tsunamis. There is one town in Japan, Fukai or Fudai I think in which a mayor persisted in building a huge 15 meter wall over the objections of many others and it saved the town. The northwest coast seems to be taking the threat of a Magnitude 9 earthquake and large tsunami as seriously as can be expected after taking the cues from Japan tsunami. This awareness can greatly limit the casualties to perhaps thousands in a 9.0 quake and tsunami.. As repoeted recently I don't recall where, the Northwest region is the subduction zone that hasn't been hit by a major earthquake in quite sometime. Thus even this small seismic activity is worth paying attention to as it could a forewarning.
1
How can we possibly prevent an earthquake from happening? We aren't even considering that as a possibility because it isn't!!
1
BINGO!!! And thank you. Many people cannot see that simple reality!
1
At least a THIRD of the population in those states are conservative, so you just don't care if a few thousand conservatives are taken as long as it's mostly liberal casualties is that it?? Go have a talk with your mom. Maybe she can knock some sense into that stone you use for a heart!!
1
@buffy the Baby bear. Actually I'll color you white like a snowflake because you have trouble hearing about the natural hazards faced by people in this case in the northwest coast.
1
@buffalobear2641 Its not worth repeating then. Have a nice day.
1
Except prepare to evacuate asap when it does happen.
1
It's very unlikely to thousands or even hundreds of years from now. The frequency is less, on the order of within the next few decades from now given the last one was in 1700 ce.
1
Your completely unconscious response is no help. Consider Japan. The warning of the approaching tsunami saved thousands of lives. Places like the Northwest Coast are not for whiney snowflakes!!
1
Sure you will, until a hurricane like Dorian has your address in its travel plans!!
1
Yes, the truth about natural hazards in the world are hard for some people who would much rather live in so called ignorant bliss. But then when the earthquake and tsunami comes there goes the bliss and maybe their life too because they CHOSE to live in ignorance of the threat from natural hazards!! The moral of the story is Get Your Head Out of the Sand and Face Reality!!
1
Look up any dictionary or encyclopedia and you will that it is spelled Tsunami!!!
1
It will happen. It's just a matter of time!!
1
@doctormcgoveran2194 The problem with your comment is that you assume that a massive earthquake and tsunami is unlikely when in fact it is very likely! As Mr Goldfinger stated the chance of such an event in the next 50 years is one in three which are not good odds to gamble against.
1
@doctormcgoveran2194 This is NOT about making a decision between addressing the real concerns of homeless kids in LA and providing a refuge from a tsunami for students in Washington. They both have different revenue sources and must deal with their financial problems separately. I would have thought everyone understood that much. In addition the kids in the northern Washinton towns of Seaside and Westport are NOT wealthy as mentioned in the video. They are struggling with their own financial limitations. The best plan to protect those students in Westport was funding a refuge 44 feet high on top of a building costing 2 million $$.
1
@doctormcgoveran2194 You may call it an odd ball way of stating the odds, but I have frequently heard geologists frame the probability of a future earthquake in a particular area in the same way. And if you aren't a geologist or a student of geology then you wouldn't be aware of that now would you? If you increase the time period to 100 years the likelyhood of an earthquake may go from one in three to one in two.
1
@doctormcgoveran2194 Thank you for this interesting conversation. I have nothing left. Have a good day.
1
@doctormcgoveran2194 I can understand that perspective.
1
No, it will definately happen and it is likely to happen within the next few decades.
