Not likely and science deals with reducing the threats to this telescope that are most likely. So the primary mirror can handle a direct hit if it is a small meteor. Large meteors are very unlikely and this remote position in space. The sun shield is also designed to handle multiple hits from micrometeors which are what are most likely at its L2 position. But even those are uncommon.

😂😅🤣. The cost of the JWST didn't progress from one billion to ten in one step. That happened over many years. If you had paid attention to the video you would have picked up on that point.

That is Congress's problem which as an institution is very averse to such funding measures. After all Congress does have an awful lot of other issues that require funding.

Because only so much was budgeted for one. NASA is funded by Congress don't ya know?

@matty6244 there were a couple of companies that built mirrors for the Hubble Telescope and of course one won and one didn't. The one that didn't ended up in a telescope called the Magdalena Ridge Telescope in New Mexico.
