For me the key to this video is summed up in the quote by Solzhenitsyn at the beginning of rhe video. When older people were asked why the great disasters of the 20th century befell the country of Russia and the answer was that "Men have forgotten God, that's why this has happened". These Older Russians were clearly bitter about what they had lived through, but it also ignores the history of the previous thousands of years. Even with "God" there have been disasters. None were more religious than the Jews since before Christ and yet no minority has been more persecuted. Faithful Jewish followers would no doubt say that it was their faith that allowed them to persevere through the disasters that they experienced. This is probably true however their dedication to their faith seems to have done little to limit the disasters that the jewish community has experienced, but that is very subjective statement, an opinion and I can't back its verosity. Or take another example; the devout practitioners of Buddhism in Tibet kept to themselves in their high mountain enclave remote from the rest of China. Despite their isolation the Chinese invaded led by one of rhe mist genocidal maniacs of the the 20th century killing an estimated one million. How did their devotion to their practice limit the violence perpetrated on them by the Chinese invaders? So what this comes down to is that we live in a violent world and the best we can do is find peace wherever we can while we can to make the world a better place. The continued existence of humanity is hardly a given when we look at the war, pestilence, starvation and environmental degradation all of which we have control over or have made worse. At the same time human beings can become amazingly resourceful when they absolutely have to. Hope springs eternal as the saying goes.
