  1. It's not intended to stop a lava flow as it to divert it. But in fact lava berms were used to stop the flow at one location during the first eruption at Fagradalsfyll in 2021.

The comparison with the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in 2010 is not really relevant because that was a much larger volcano that erupted a different composition of lava that made the eruption more explosive. This eruption if it happens will be like the previous 3 eruptions to the northeast that erupted a thinner lava also like the lava from Kilauea eruptions in Hawaii.
