How did you get to be so misinformed? The town was founded in 1897 by Einar Einarsson. It is a fishing village. There is no active volcano in the area save for the Fagradalsfyll Volcanic field 15 miles to the northeast. This town sits on lava that erupted at least 800 years ago. This is new eruptive activity. Get the picture??

@TheFeFactor Sure it is now, but that town was there many decades before there was any sign of an active volcano in that area. And what you said in your first comment was that the town was built on an active volcano which it wasn't.

@TheFeFactor What joke are you referring to? This is going to sound very pedantic, but that's a cross I carry 😂😅, but hear me out Some people have outright made insulting comments( not joking) why people would choose to build a town on a volcano which ignores that whole island was built by volcanoes so they essentially criticizing everyone who chooses to live in Iceland which you seem to be doing as well or am I misinterpreting you?? Put this in context: many people live in environments more difficult to live in Iceland or maybe the climate is beautiful, but the area is the target of natural disasters that take way more casualties and cause way more property damage. Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and forest fires all cause a far higher mortality rate and loss of property than do volcanoes. Do you also criticize people who choose to live in places that are vulnerable to those natural phenomena too?? If not why not. Why are the people who live in Grindavik or Iceland any different?? And what does the insinuation of their religious affiliation have to do with it? On what basis do you draw a conclusion about their religious choices as if that justifies your critique of people choosing to live in Iceland? I'm just trying to understand your point of view because you keep making comments on this thread that I don't understand.
