Comments by "Michael Deierhoi" (@michaeldeierhoi4096) on "Jason Hickel: Why a Liberated Palestine Threatens Global Capitalism" video.
@martinjugolin2087 When you say "you workers" what group do you belong to because your comment implies that you are in something like an executive or something else or maybe retired?! What you are NOT saying has implications as well.

Oh because the solutions are so easy right? 🙄 In actuality the answer to the problems created by capitalism was in his explanation about the need to develop economic democracy. We don't even have economic democracy in the US so of course we make no effort to promote around the world. It has been argued that we have a republic, but that isn't entirely true either as the people have been given more and more choices to elect candidates for office since the founding of this country in so we have become more democratic in the process. But now because of the control of large corporations and wealthy individuals we are moving away from a republic/democracy toward an oligarchy. The capitalists like nothing better. This means economic democracy is even more remote at least in the US which is the dominant economic and political power in the world right now.

@genealogiacolorada On the contrary I think Jason Hickle spells it out quite clearly. He begins by saying a liberated Palestine means a liberated Middle East. Then he goes on to say that the wealthy capitalist countries use a colonial style of management with the poorer countries. For the latter part of the video he explains the need for economic democracy around the world. This would allow the poorer countries to have more say in the exploitation of their resources instead of the wealthy countries coming in to take what they want. To add to this from my perspective Israel has been allowed to rampage through at least five countries in the Middle East in order to exercise their power over those countries. I include the occupied territories under the label of countries for simplicity's sake. The civilians are necessary casualties in their drive toward controlling the region rather than ever trying to negotiate a genuine peace!

Not really because Palestine is the most repressed region in the Middle East and if it were to be liberated then a ripple effect could take place throughout the Middle East. That is one reason the US instinctively seems to withhold putting pressure on Israel to end its occupation on the occupied territories and end its war there.

Because Palestine is the most repressed region in the Middle East. If it were to gain liberation from Israel and become a sovereign country it would indicate a seismic change in the consciousness in the world had occurred. In the same way imagine Cuba and Puerto Rico being liberated from US government repression! Following the message in the video Jason Hickle talked about first how the capitalist wealthy countries maintain a colonial relationship with the global south and poor countries around the world. It is precisely because of the capitalist nature of the wealthy countries that the poor countries are kept poor through continued extraction of resources and cheap labor. This is a policy that has continued for 500 years and will not change as long as capitalism remains the dominant economic force for wealthy countries. This is why Hickle talked about economic democracy which would level the playing field for all countries. As an analogy the same way that blacks were marginalized for so long in the US, given low paying jobs, not allowed to live in certain communities so too have poor countries kept poor and deprived of opportunity.

That phrase "so much yapping" sounds like what someone would say who prefers shorter videos. Sometimes we have to watch a video more than and maybe several times to really appreciate what the message being conveyed is. I felt that Jason Hickle was very clear in articulating the threat that a liberated Palestine poses to the capitalist system. It's all about the main global powers perpetuating a colonial relationship with the poorer countries of the world. For Israel there is little colonial benefit with its occupation of Palestine because it obtains no resources from that region other than constantly stealing their land. Consequently Israel has shown no concern for civilian casualties in any conflict and didn't even make a genuine effort at negotiating the release of the hostages. Hardliners were also adamantly opposed to any negotiation with Hamas. Combine the colonial relationship with the capitalist countries continued to extract resources from those countries or use them as a source for cheap labor and it becomes clear that a liberated Palestine is symbolic of what the wealthy countries vigorously oppose.

That was very well said and the fact that Israel expanded little effort to gain the release of over a 100 hostages should be a sign that Israel was more concerned to perpetuate the war to allow Netanyahu to stay in power. That also explains their aggressive war against Hezbollah in Lebanon. I found their use of bombs placed in cell phones that injured and killed many civilians highlighted the extremes that they were willing to go to as especially reprehensible. It has been said before that Israel has adopted the same violent destructive attitude that the Nazis used against Jews in the ghettos in WW II. It is like physically abused children who grow up to be murderers and worse tyrants who kill large numbers of people.

You may have to watch it a couple times, but the why that you ask is explained is in the first 1 and 1/2 minutes.

I don't understand how you concluded that Jason Hickle was talking about the "Middle East as somehow free of responsibility" because I didn't get that at all. As to the second part the way I see it Palestine is one of dozens of countries that are poor and suffering varying degrees of depression by other countries usually wealthy and in the northern hemisphere. If Palestine were to achieve complete liberation and become a sovereign state it will indicate a seismic shift had occurred in the consciousness of a wealthy country or countries. This would also lead to opening up of the Middle East to the rest of the world. You have to follow the messaging through the rest of the video which explains how the rich capitalist countries continue to keep countries in much of the global south poor as they extract resources and labor from them. Israel keeps the occupied territories poor by maintaining continuous occupation there. The recent war in Gaza has been found by Amnesty international to have been a genocide. That's an extreme example of the oppression perpetrated on Palestine. Israel also steals land from the West Bank for Jewish settlements as part of their repressive policy to keep Palestine poor. It is only by moving toward an economic democracy in the world can this imbalance be corrected as stated in the video.

So by your comment I suspect you consider yourself a conservative. That being the case conservatives often talk about free speech being important to them. If you also hold such a belief then why are you intolerant of liberals and by extension the opinions articulated in this video??
1
@cienfu_egos Now that puts an entirely different spin on the word 'capitalism' and it is also such a broad generalization that it is meaningless.
1
@cienfu_egos I guess I need to expand my awareness about the world.

@genealogiacolorada Maybe you should do what some other commenters have done including myself and watch the video again maybe a couple more times. Besides if you are so hung up on whether the title exactly reflects the video you are either new to YouTube or you rant a lot about the video titles because they are often reflecting the video content much less than in this video!!!
1
@genealogiacolorada I do too, but it depends how egregious the title is off the mark. And the content of the video are usually the deciding factor in determining whether a channel is worth following.

Why do you make the leap to communism when ECONOMIC DEMOCRACY was the term used in this video?? And besides that if you don't recognize the economic disaster wrought by capitalism then you are overdue for a deep dive into the problems created by capitalist economic systems. The growing wealth disparity is one example. The fact that the US is no longer a democracy or a republic, but instead an oligarchy is another.
