Collecting info like this is nothing new. Starting with FDR, all the way to Obama, the presidents have used our intelligence agencies to collect info on their political enemies, subversives, anarchists, and activists. That was what COINTELPRO was all about. The Church Committee made a big stink about it that led to Reagan issuing EO 12333, which opened the door up to a much broader sweeping program, that was later legalized in the Patriot Act. COINTELPRO wasn't strictly legal, but due to the complaints from the left, it led to legalizing it, and making it much worse.
This is why I stay away from the websites that have anything to do with left-wing radical groups. Google and others track people searching for them, and now the government is demanding the peoples names who've been there.
