Judaism has never equated a race nor nationality; it's a religion. A Semite is any person who speaks a Semitic language, and they could be anyone from an atheist to a Jew, Muslim, or Christian, etc. Religion has nothing to do with one being a Semite.
Semitic: "First used in the 1770s by members of the Göttingen School of History, the terminology was derived from Shem, one of the three sons of Noah in the Book of Genesis, together with the parallel terms Hamites and Japhetites. The terminology is now largely obsolete outside linguistics."__Wikipedia
As a matter of fact, the term "race," was only used to describe a group using a certain language, not the makeup of a person. The Romans would not understand what the terms race or Semite mean.
The term, Semitic, is based upon biblical myth alone. It depends on there being a real person named Shem, and when one studies the history of Noah, it is built upon the Mesopotamian myth of another person of myth named Atrahasis. The story is about the Euphrates flooding, or as some think, it may also mean that the sea spilled into the Mesopotamian low ground creating the Persian Gulf.
The ancient three estates (government), and what became today's religion, are based upon very shaky ground. The "divine right of kings" died with the Stuart kingship.
