Which immigrant had malaria, since it's from the tropics? That is the question they won't ask, since all it takes is one, with a mosquito biting them, and then, someone else. Symptoms usually begin ten to fifteen days after being bitten, but by that time, the original infected host might not be found.

These gametocytes develop in the bone marrow for 11 days, then return to the blood circulation to await uptake by the bite of another mosquito. Once inside a mosquito, the gametocytes undergo sexual reproduction, and eventually form daughter sporozoites that migrate to the mosquito's salivary glands to be injected into a new host when the mosquito bites."
