  1. Both political parties, or at least the politicians that supported FDR's New Deal socialism, used regulations to kill manufacturing and other business in the US. During Nixon, as they were courting China to send US manufacturing there, they created the EPA. Guess what that did to manufacturing, giving them an incentive to move their manufacturing out of the US? . There's a small book about the takeover of the GOP back then, by the progressives, called "A Choice Not An Echo," (1964), by Phyllis Schlafty, which people should read. It explains how the progressives in the GOP stopped Robert A Taft from becoming the president, by asking Eisenhower to run against him. It takes you back into the thirties, where it begins, and ends with LBJ.
