All of today's religions have a single root, and it was at the Pontic Steppe. It was there with the start of language, the tribe, and civilization, and it is tied to the cattle herders of the mountains, as the ruling elite, and the wheat farmers of the plains. That early language, religion, and civilization spread both east and west, and then, south. It's origins, it is thought, lie with the peoples on either side of the Volga, just south of where it forks at the southern end of the Urals (around Samara). The farmers lived to the west of the river, and the cattle herders to the east, closer to the mountains.

The mountain dwellers, who once lived in carved caves from Anatolia to the Caucasus and Urals, came out onto the plains, and began herding and farming. Language starts here, as well as religion, based upon the tribe. The farther away from the point of origin, culture caused changes in that religion, and brought differing beliefs. That leads us to today.
The mountain has had deep connections to religion, as rites were performed on top of them, as well as on top of the burial mounds. This leads to the tale of Polyphemus, and this religion was also behind the pyramids built on the plains. This ancient religion was with the first four civilizations, which were the people on both sides of the Caucasus, which leads to the Fertile Crescent, the Indus River valley, China, and Peru. Even though some scholars may deny it, it was the same religion in all four areas. Peru's civilization didn't rise on its own.
