Satan is a metaphor for an obstructionist. The Hebrew word, Satan, means adversary, nothing more, and it wasn't the name of the angel mentioned in Job. In the OT, it is generally written as "ha satan," which means "the satan," or "the adversary." Satan comes from the Persian word, Shatan, which literally means the same thing.
The Greco-Romans adopted this, and mixed it with their belief of Pluto or Hades, the god of the underworld and wealth.
