The three degrees actually represent birth, or a young uneducated child with the first degree, the middle-aged man who is gaining knowledge and experience in the second, and the old and wise, leading to death in the third. It's the cycle of life.

But you have to have studied religious and political philosophy and history to understand what is hidden with allegory and metaphor throughout the entire book. Where he writes of "Lucifer, the light bearer," and "doubt it not" leads one back to an invented devil that sprang from works such as Paradise Lost, and a mistranslation of the Old Testament. He's really referencing what Jesus supposedly called himself in Revelation 22:16, where the "bright morning star" is Lucifer. The uneducated and the religious con artists use his words, which they edit, to make the claim of "satan worship." The bright morning star is also Venus, which only shows itself for a short time at dawn before it dies away. Jesus died in his thirties, thus existing for a short while and leaving like the morning star. It is also a reference to knowledge.
