The British had started the Anglo-Persian Oil Company in 1909, renamed the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company in the thirties, which later became BP. The British and French made the states with agreements including the Russians. The Russians, though, were behind installing Mosaddegh in Iran, who nationalized AIOC, making the National Iranian Oil Company. They kicked the British out. The British went to Eisenhower, in the early fifties, and said that the US was welcome to join them in the oil, if the US would help to depose Mosaddegh. That was when Ike agreed, setting the US policy for the Middle-East, and sent in the CIA to pull off the coup, which started the first US backed proxy war. That US policy has been followed until now. It's all about who controls the energy resources, Europe, along with the US, or Asia (mainly Russia). Before that, US intel helped by giving info to its allies. After, we started backing, giving training, money, and arms to militants. The big lie, was that it was about spreading democracy, and human rights. In reality, it was about Europe using the US as their bully, via NATO, to take the gas and oil. By inviting in the US oil interests, the US would protect its assets too. However, in the Saudi's case, they wanted to keep out the Russian and Iranian influence, and it does have to do with the difference between the Sunni and Shiite. Pakistan was the same, which led to Afghanistan, during the last of Carter's term. Reagan inherited that, and it was expanded. Before that, we pitted Saddam against the Ayatollah, (Iraq Iran War), after the Shah fled. During WWII, Patton and Ike was questioning why the Brits wanted to keep the US in Africa and the Middle-East. It was all about the oil and gas. That, and they couldn't allow Germany to have it. If not for that, D-Day would have occurred much earlier. Now, it's about not allowing the Asians to have it. Anyhow, since then, the US and Europe has been using the Middle-East's own people to fight wars against people backed mainly by Russia. Thus, the people are the proxies in the wars. We trained and armed them, even though US citizens would consider them militant terrorists. Russia took over the militant socialists who the Nazis were training, and arming. It's been war ever since.
