One can see the same thought reform techniques used by Bernie et al, in the East, which have their roots in the Hindu and Buddhist religions. Robert Jay Lifton, MD, wrote about the methods the Chinese used against US soldiers during the Korean War. Instead of erecting statues of important figures to show memorial and respect, they erect idols such as Marx, Lenin, Stalin, and Mao who become their Buddha or Shiva in their cult of personality. Some have even made a pilgrimage to Britain to visit Marx's tomb. I'm waiting for them to erect a Bernie or Hillary statue in one of the western coastal states. Is it any wonder that many join eastern religions, and make use of yoga and gurus? These are the Edenists, especially those involved in environmentalism and social justice.
