Those that say these things, and compare Joe to that, are the same type of people, at one time, who wanted to make the US into a monarchy with Washington as the king, have no Congress with only state governors, and rule over it with an iron fist while playing crony capitalism with the most wealthy, and their good friends back in Britain. That was Hamilton's Federalists, by the way. Washington told them that he would not have that.
This is what Jefferson and Madison stepped in to stop, via the Democratic-Republican Party, and why the Constitution and Bill of Rights came to be. Republicanism was a Jeffersonian belief.
When the Federalists lost their party and broke away from the main one, they plagiarized Jefferson's original party name, Republican, and formed the NRP, which became the Whig Party, and later, the GOP. It was Jackson that actually continued Jefferson's Old Republican beliefs under the Democratic Party, which is what the main party was renamed over the split.
One last note. How could there have been an "era of good feelings," when the DRP was fractioned and factionalized, thus, leading to the creation of the NRP whose members called themselves Anti-Jacksonian?
By 1900, it didn't matter, as the Federalists had overtaken both parties, and we now have what we have. This is Hamilton's curse and his Leviathan we're fighting.
