Those who think that governments and wars are about human rights, etc, have a major misconception about what governments are for. From time immemorial, they have been about protecting the most wealthy's interests, which makes up the economy, and they have fought all their wars over economics, trade, tariffs, taxes, competition for natural resources, expansionism, exploitation, and obtaining more wealth.
The lie to hide it with the plebes, in modern times, is fighting for human rights.
The US was to be the "New Rome" under the "big brother" Federalists, until Jefferson stepped in with Madison, giving the public the Bill of Rights. Without that, it would have been similar to Britain.
The idea of cheap labor and exploitation never went away; the corporations just bided their time until they could move everything to Asia, (with the government's help), and they did it over the many occurring strikes around the nation, especially the dockworkers. The corporate west built today's workhouse and sweatshop Asia.
