The communist hearings, known as the HCUA (not HUAC as the leftists and Wikipedia lie about and call it), was started before him in Congress by the Overman Committee, where Overman was a D, and this eventually led to the House Committee on Un-American Activities run by Democratic Representative Edward J. Hart of New Jersey. Let's not forget that RFK was also involved in that. Later on, McCarthy was proven correct, when evidence came out with the Verona and other papers proving his claims that the Soviet Union had infiltrated the government and elsewhere.
