When a group of people, or states, band together, what is that called? What is a group of sticks bound together around an axe called?
In 1968, a group was put together to "find a new enemy," and it was led by Aurelio Peccei, an Italian industrialist, and Alexander King, "a British scientist who had advised the British government, and who was currently serving as Director-General for Scientific Affairs at the OECD." Prince Philip was involved in this group.
This new group found their new enemy to "unite the nations to work together" along with industry, etc., and they wrote about it in a book that they published, titled: The First Global Revolution, by King and Schneider, (1991). The book follows up an earlier 1972 work-The Limits to Growth. From the first-mentioned book, I quote:
"New enemies must be identified... In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill." [SIC]
They went on to say that: "The real enemy then is humanity itself."
