Graf von Losinj "A nation of workers" is correct, but brainwashed factory workers is what they wanted. That was the ideology of the nationalist Federalists, as the industrial revolution was just taking off in the northern states. They were anti-agriculture, even though that fed the textile industry, and anti-small town community and pro-factory (workhouse), as well as pro-big brother government.
The Federalists looked at the ideas of utopian Owenism, and Jefferson even sat in on Owen's proposal, though he didn't agree with it in the end. In Britain, Engels obtained many of his ideas from Owen, as well as did Marx. Even then, the two were really pro-big business, and supported the textile company's owners. Owenism was a scam to enrich factory owners, and dupe the workers.
Owen tried setting up sixteen of his utopian communal workhouses in the US, which were involved in textiles, and they all failed. After that, he hightailed it back to England.
Owen's sons later documented the failures of the "Owenites." You can pretty much guess what caused them to fail.
