WWII was the excuse to introduce multitudes of women into the workforce, and it exploded after that. All social welfare schemes work like a Ponzi scheme, and after the Western nations sat idly by and allowed the industrial sector to offshore, the job market plummeted. Now, there is no mass industrial employment, and no money feeding the welfare system.
