  1. Many churches have been progressively disregarding the written scripture for many years, and today is the culmination of that. You can't simply select what you wish to believe and preach, you have to believe and live by the entire scripture. Protestantism began the downfall, and it will continue (this coming from an agnostic). Imagine the judiciary and law enforcement only selecting what laws they wish to enforce while ignoring the others, or simply inventing new laws on a whim, without it being from the Parliament or Congress. Oh, wait, they're doing that, too.

  2. Since all religion is based upon creation and procreation, today's clergy are doing their level best to pull up the roots of these very beliefs. What they're preaching flies in the face of procreation, marriage, and creating a family.

  3. It's not so much atheistic, but agnostic. The public become agnostic over what the churches have been preaching since the late 1800s. The laity have been noticing how the scripture is not being followed for that long, and it started with Christian Socialism and the Social Gospel. They become agnostic, like myself, where they believe in a creator, procreation, marriage, and the family, but turn their back on the church for breaking with the scripture. They see the clergy as hypocrites and sinners.
