  1. What happened? Socialism happened, and it was they that brought in brutalist architecture. It descended from the modernist movement, and that was from the socialist movement as a whole. Its ideas came from the decadent movement, a part of the socialist movement, where art and architecture were purposely made to look ugly and plain.
