Just remember, this all has roots in radical protestant religion, and when they were outed as heretics, or for their unorthodox ways, (some rather perverted), they would become violent and even kill. Many, who were declared to be witches, were those that did not believe in these local cults and their quackery that was being preached from their pulpits. The farther left you go, the more of a radical cult it is. Now, they've denied God, and worship either the state, or the state's leader over a cult of personality.
