Doing party purges is hard to keep up. As an example, in the US, the GOP purged the party of the Progressives between 1910-12, only to have them come back during WWII and the 1950s as the Neocons. In the US, a Progressive is a socialist, who was generally a Trotskyist, that was centered in NYC, and they were called the New York Intellectuals. They hated Stalin, so they left the Ds to join the Rs. They are who run the Lincoln Project.
No, the Libertarians have too liberal a belief for a Conservative. Open borders are okay between the states in a union such as the US, but not between nations when you have to control those other nations' actions and immigration. Also, you have to have the ability to apply tariffs, etc., to thwart unfair trade practices.
