I wouldn't blame all physicians or dentists for this. A good majority of addicts bought drugs on the street to get high, and became addicted. Most OD's, in reality, now, are from cheap heroin. Drug cartels are also deep into drug diversion, and obtain pharmacy sized bottles of pain killers, which they sell on the streets, such as Oxycontin and Vicodin.
Many physicians refer those who need narcotics to pain specialists now, and if they are true specialists, you go through a range of tests, and therapy, before you are ever placed on a narcotic. You have to genuinely need it at most pain specialists. The DEA is going after the pill mills, and the pharmacies who are tied to them, so it's not like they're not doing their jobs. However, stopping organized crime selling prescription medicine on the street, is a hard matter to police. Then, we look at what came out about the Obama administration allowing Hezbollah to sell drugs into the US, and turning a blind eye to it.
