  2.  @TheRealJoeMama1  That was why Lord Baltimore formed the state of Maryland. Virginia, of course, had the Anglican Church as a state religion. Maryland was open to all, though mainly Catholics flooded in. My family, who were Catholic, left London around 1670, and headed to Maryland over that very thing. That, and to dodge the Black Plague, which had made a reappearance, as well as the Great Fire of London in 1666.
