  1. About Jackson detesting paper currency, he had every right to. Before the US was formed, there was paper colonial currency issued by several banks, and to hurt the US, Britain counterfeited it, and flooded it into circulation. Britain wouldn't take it as payment for taxes, either, and demanded gold. Even then, paper currency was based on credit issued by private banks, and fractional reserve lending was a thing, then, just like today. Jackson saw that system as easy to fail, which could cause a bank run, with the depositors losing all their money.
