That was why Ike placed Nixon, allegedly, over the 40 Committee after his stroke, which started with the Cuban Project, and spread out. The D Party was also under heavy scrutiny over their communist ties, and when JFK took office, it seemed as if he was reluctant to push forward the 40 Committee's plans, even though his brother, Robert, was involved in the investigations. This led to the Bay of Pigs fiasco, and later, the Warren Commission report, which was designed to cover up the 40 Committee's operations.
When Nixon became president, he continued on with the 40 Committee operations, but his mistake was creating his own private goon squad, the Plumbers, who were made up of men from the Cuba operations. Their screwups lost him the presidency, and he resigned. However, I've often wondered if it was all a part of the D Party's plan, who, since Ike, had been trying to shut the operations down. The D Party knew what was taking place in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central and South America. They also knew that they were in the crosshairs, themselves.
