  1. You can't mention Robespierre without mentioning the likes of François-Noël Babeuf and others, along with their new religion, and the Conspiracy of the Equals. Babeuf was called the father of Communism. After him came Henri de Saint-Simon and his apprentice, with the birth of Socialism. Under Robespierre, they wouldn't be Christians at all, but now, they would worship a new goddess, "Reason." They even built a huge statue to her.

  2.  @str.77  Correct. It all occurred during their revolution. They wouldn't stop, as we did in America, and completely went off the deep end with everything they did. All of that led to the wars and genocide that we've seen since.
