I had a very similar thing happen to me as a witness. I was asked a question in such a manner, that any way I replied would have been a lie. So, I turned to the Judge and said: “Your Honor, I cannot answer that question without it being a lie, and I will not lie to this court.” The Judge replied: “Answer it in the best way you can.” The above opened the door for me to tell the truth.
