  1. This started happening in the US after WWII. The south, which had been loyal Democrats, watched as their party was infiltrated by radical socialists. During FDR's term, it came out that card-carrying Communists was everywhere in FDR's administration. By the time of Nixon, especially with the Vietnam war protests, the hippie movement, and the Communists showing themselves, the people swung their vote. As a result, the GOP became more pro-worker, and the DNC started shifting farther left. Look at it today.
