  1. It's no different from spinning yarns about Auld Hornie or the boogeyman coming after the people in the middle of the night. Some people are naive enough to believe the tales. What keeps them in power is the threat of using force and incarceration as a punishment. If both the police and military would not lift a finger to protect them, and refuse to do their jobs as ordered, they would quickly fall. That has happened before.
