Snort! You can't find anyone, let's say under fifty, today, who doesn't have an iPhone glued to their hand, or they're sitting in front of a PC for sixteen hours a day. People are addicted. The governments love that, as this became the best route of spreading propaganda, especially to the young.
Google started scanning books "out of copyright" several years ago. The problem with them is that the science in them is outdated, as are many of the ideas. I use them only for historical reference, and that's it, as many are rare books only available there. If you looked at my eBay account, though, you would see several books being purchased every month.
I also support the library system, and you are correct, as the college simply means "a body or guild of colleagues tied to a library." It means almost the same thing as the university.
