  1. To a politician, it's easier to deal with an in inanimate object than a living person, because they're afraid of the public backlash. Years ago, politicians and LEOs were made of sterner stuff, and didn't care much about public opinion when dealing with the mentally ill and criminals. Both were once locked away from the public, but not now.
