Not only that, they wanted to deny their ethnicity to the point of changing their names, and they were tied to the mob from Chicago and NYC. Mob money financed the studios, just as it later financed Vegas. All the unions involved with production had both mob and communist ties as well. The reason they went to LA, and purchased the land that became Hollywood, was to take advantage of California's lax laws due to the crackdown that was occurring in Chicago and New York.

@elkpaz560 The ones in NYC were religious, and most of their films were about religious topics. The ones that fled to Cali were irreligious, and they tried to deny who they were, going to the extreme of changing their names. Lansky et al was from this very lot, and it was he and his people that funded the studios. That's also why Joe Kennedy ended up with RKO pictures before Hughes was prompted by the govt to buy him out.
