There have always been deceitful academics, but most of them generally arose during certain crises around the world. What we're seeing, today, is tied directly to the "Pivot to East Asia," which started under the Obama administration.
Essentially, that administration threw out US and UK policy going back to WWI, and crawled into bed with China, with many large corporations, and banks', backing.
Though many people do not like WJC, he stated: "It's about the economy, stupid." Both world wars were about the beginnings of globalism, which involved transnational trade, cheap labor, and profits. That last word is the dirty word that they don't want ever mentioned. Sadly, it's as simple as that.

Anita Maguire Oh yes, as before WWI, there were several spats that ended quickly, while others were smoothed over via negotiations, which they really didn't do before. Those negotiations led to the idea of the League, a supranational body to settle disputes before war could break out.
It was Wilson and House that demanded the League in Paris, which ended up delaying the peace settlement for a long time. However, that idea came from the Anglo-American Establishment, which was started by wealthy people such as Rhodes, the Roosevelts, and the Astors. In the UK, they called them the Cliveden Set, and if the Germans had taken Britain during WWII, they had a black book with their names in it, as they intended on taking their wealth.

Anita Maguire Several nations have benefited from 1900 until now. However, what led up to WWI, which we're still seeing the results of, was Germany's rise as a global economic power, and their expansionism. That spread fear around Europe, leading to several nations allying with one another. Several conflicts arose before the "trigger," which were luckily ironed out, but finally, the German alliance used what happened in Serbia to let it loose.
Bismarck had kept a balance of power going, until he was removed, and it went downhill from there. There were some shenanigans used after that, including sending Lenin to Russia as "the plague."
WWII resulted from WWI, and the moves across Eurasia from thereon out are the result leading to today. It was always about the first breaths of globalization, natural resources, and trade, as well as Russia, and the east, industrializing, and projecting power.
There are several good newer lectures about this on Youtube.
